Design Thinking 2023 Competition

Design Your Thinking Labs is now accepting entries for its DesignThinking 2023 competition, inviting visionary designers and innovative creators to showcase their excellence in user experience design, user research, visual arts, and graphic design. This competition offers an important platform for participants to exhibit creativity, gain extensive exposure, augment networking and professional growth, and achieve recognition for exceptional design capabilities, propelling the IT industry forward and setting future trends.

Contest Entry Requirements

To be considered for participation in DesignThinking 2023, applicants must:

Design Tool Proficiency

Demonstrate hands-on experience with design tools like Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, etc.

Professional Experience

Have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in design fields such as graphic design, user experience design, etc.

Submission Materials

Provide a design portfolio, LinkedIn profile, and resume showcasing qualifications and experience.

Personal Statement

Include a brief statement outlining motivation for competing in DesignThinking 2023.

Please note that meeting these requirements alone does not guarantee admission to DesignThinking 2023. Each application will be thoroughly reviewed by the selection committee, and admission decisions will be based on the applicant's qualifications, experience, and potential to contribute to the competition.

Submission Requirements,

Evaluation, and Deadlines

Participants should submit their designs, accompanied by high-resolution images and detailed documentation showcasing the innovation, user experience, and technical aspects of their proof of concept. Each submission
undergoes a thorough evaluation by an esteemed panel of judges, focusing on innovation, design quality, and potential impact.

On Friday, September 29, 2023, at 7 p.m. IST, each participant will receive a link to a creative brief containing UI design specifications. This entire event will be ONLINE. All Zoom links will be sent in your confirmation email if your application is approved. The submission deadline is 10 a.m. IST on October 2, 2023.

The Design Thinking 2023 Jury is a selected panel of industry experts from each of the five disciplines – Product Management, Graphic Design, User Experience Design, User Research, and Customer Experience. Their talents and contributions to their respective fields are aspirational. They have contributed to new innovative solutions, published product reviews, and hired design talents.

Christopher Gnanadurai

Senior Manager UX, FourKites, Inc. (CHENNAi, India)

The seasoned Design Leader in User Experience brings over 15 years of expertise in shaping user-centric designs. His journey is defined by a deep understanding of UX research and design thinking, where empathy for users fuels innovative solutions. Chris excels in translating user needs into engaging, intuitive designs and has developed new innovative process improvements in logistics management.

Sreedhar Srinivasan

Architect, Virtusa (Chicago, USA)

User Experience specialist with a background in Human-Computer Interaction and Information Technology, he has over 20 years of experience. Having worked as a UX Architect for many leading clients, he has succeeded in bringing new ideas to life, including Medication Adherence in Healthcare using Augmented Reality. His solutions aim for a unified user experience, fostering a common vision for users, businesses, and technology to build, improve, and expand the user experience. Additionally, he has performed industry-leading product reviews for Pega and Invision, earning expertise and recognition in the field.

Akshaya Raghu

Visual Designer, Architect (Milan, Italy)

A former landscape architect who transitioned into the field of visual design, she views both physical and digital spaces as canvases for crafting immersive experiences. She boasts a strong portfolio of design assets and a passion for creating design systems for a unified visual experience. Her specialization includes accessibility and inclusive design, and she has been featured in the media for her work.

Judging Criteria for Submitted Designs

We want to emphasize that each jury member is committed to ensuring a fair and unbiased evaluation of all entries.

The judging criteria encompass the following aspects:

  • Innovation: Does the design stand out, introduce something new to the market, or enhance an existing product or service?
  • Aesthetics: What is the artistic value of the design in terms of form, shape, color, texture, finishing, engineering, and materials used?
  • Functionality: How user-friendly, safe, and easy to maintain is the design?
  • Ergonomics: How well does the design interact with the user?
  • Durability: What is the quality and longevity of the design?
  • Impact: What benefits does the design deliver to the user and/or society?
  • Utility: Does the design meet the intended purpose and user needs effectively?
  • Ecological Compatibility: What is the design's potential environmental and ecological impact?
  • Feasibility of Production: How realistic is it, both technically and economically, to bring this design into production and broad-- scale use?
  • Emotional Quotient (EQ): Besides fulfilling its practical purpose, will the design evoke a sense of enjoyment and satisfaction?
